On November 14, the 3rd “Southern Surveying&Mapping Cup” Undergraduates Surveying and Mapping Comprehensive Skills Contest was launched online in Hunan province. More than 20 undergraduate colleges across the province and nearly 130 teams took part in it. Chen Wei, Zhao Jianchen, Kuang Chuang, Wu Haodong, Wang Jiawang and Xie Yulong, six students from the School of Architectural Engineering, under the guidance of Wang Jun, Liang Qiao, Fu Zhiyao and other teachers, won 5 second prizes, which is the best-ever result since HIE participated in this competition.
With distinctive industrial characteristics, this competition embraced the means of virtual reality, laid emphasis on professionalism and practicality, and comprehensively tested students' ability to master measuring, surveying&mapping and other professional skills. The match aims at strengthening the combination of practical education and engineering surveying course education, cultivating college students' practical ability and enhancing students' surveying and mapping skills.
Sponsored by Hunan Provincial Education Department, undertook by Hunan City University, and co-organized by Hunan Surveying&Mapping Geographic Information Society and Hunan Southern Surveying&Mapping Technology Co. LTD, this competition is the premier professional competition in the range of Hunan surveying and mapping industry. Leaders of HIE and separate school put high premium on and offered substantial support to this contest, along with the instructors organized and coached contestants painstakingly, who sacrificed their spare time to prepare for the competition and thus captured good results. Via this competition, students' learning outcomes were examined, not only did they improve their professional attainments, but also accumulated more experience of being in the field. Simultaneously, it attached guiding significance for teachers to enhance the level of teaching and research as well.
