On September 27th, the 10thHunan University Student Chemistry & Chemical Engineering Academic Competition came to an end at Changsha University. The School of Materials and Chemical Engineering of our school won three first prizes, two second prizes and four third prizes in this competition, which has achieved a new breakthrough.
This year’s competition was organized by Hunan Education Department and undertook by Changsha University. The competition consists of three parts: chemistry experiment skills competition, chemistry and chemical engineering innovation competition and chemical engineering design competition. Affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, the chemistry experiment skills competition was cancelled. The other two competitions were conducted by combining offline text review with online defense.
Competitors participated were from more than 30 universities in Hunan such as Hunan University, Central South University and Xiangtan University. After qualification examination and on-site evaluation by competition organizing committee, 51 innovative works and 35 chemical designs were selected for the final. After intense and fierce competition, the following projects from our school have won the first prize:Unlabelled "Turn-off" Hg2+ Sensor Research based on Aptamer Functionalized Fluorescent Graphene Oxide"(Yang Mei, etc. instructed by Zhang He),KI Catalyzed Cross-Coupling Reaction of Cyclohexyl Isocyanate and Sulfonyl Chloride to Synthesize S-thiocarbamate(Lin Liangwei, etc. instructed by Fang Zhengjun), andGood Luck with Alkane Team(Du Jiong, etc. instructed by Liu Huajie). Their excellent performance has achieved the zero breakthrough of the first prize in the provincial chemical design competition of our school.
The School of Materials and Chemical Engineering has always attached great importance to the cultivation of college students' practical ability and innovative ability, actively implemented the principle of "Promote Learning and Teaching by Competition", and made new breakthroughs in academic competition.
The competition was strongly supported by the College of Innovation and Entrepreneurship and the Network Information and Modern Education Technology Center.
