Chen Kun and Chen Can, two students from our school, were awarded the title of "Self-driven and Self-reliant Star of 2022", winning a scholarship of national influence and significance.
       With the theme of "Striving Forward Bravely", this activity aims to set an example for contemporary college students to love their motherland, have good conduct, be fearless of difficulties and strive for excellence. Since February 2023, the league organizations at all levels in our school have actively publicized and vigorously find the youth model. After being recommended by the college, recommended by the Youth League Committee, evaluated at the provincial level and selected nationwide, Chen Kun, a 2021 graduate student from the Graduate Work Office of our school, and Chen Can, a 2020 undergraduate student from the School of Management, stood out among other equally excellent students who also exercise the notion of self-motivation and self-reliance with their own characteristics.

Chen Kun, a member of the Communist Youth League, is a 2021 graduate student in the School of Materials and Chemical Engineering. He has won the 2022 National Scholarship, Academician Chen Jiayong Scholarship, the first-class scholarship of the school, and the innovation and entrepreneurship scholarship. He actively participated in academic conferences at home and abroad, and was interviewed by Hunan Jingshi News Media at the International Symposium on Fine Chemicals. He adhered to a serious and rigorous scientific research attitude. During his postgraduate years, he mainly studied the direction of CO2 resource utilization, devoted himself to the research of carbon peaking and carbon neutralization, and made continuous efforts in the field of synthesizing epoxy carbonate. As a role model for young students in scientific research in the new era, he influenced more young college students to join in scientific research. He successively published 3 papers in the top journals of the industry, won 1 invention patent, 2 utility model patents, and applied for 1 provincial postgraduate scientific and technological innovation project. At the same time, Chen Kun is enthusiastic about public welfare, serving the society and takes the initiative to work as a volunteer in the "Haili Cup" Hunan College Students Experimental Operation Competition, the Seventh National Carbon Catalysis Conference, the Fourth Plenary Meeting of the College Chemistry Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education, and the reception of postgraduates in our school in 2023.

Chen Can, a probationary member of the Communist Party of China, is a 2020 undergraduate majoring in human resources management in School of Management. Since entering the school, Chen Can has studied hard and actively participated in various innovation, entrepreneurship and discipline competitions. She has won 3 national awards such as the second prize in the National University Digital Intelligence Business Decision Innovation Competition, 7 provincial awards such as the third prize in the Hunan University Students E-Commerce Competition, and 17 school awards. She presided over 1 innovative research project for provincial university students, participated in 4 provincial and municipal projects, and published 3 academic papers in journals such as Journal of Hunan Institute of Engineering. Chen Can also won many honors such as "Excellent Communist Youth League Member" in Yuetang District, "Star of Intellectual Education", "Excellent Communist Youth League Cadre", "First Class Scholarship" and "Three Good Students".

As a student cadre, Chen Can took the initiative and made positive progress. During her school years, she served as the class league secretary, the head of the organization department of the league branch of the School of Management, the head of the second party branch of the students of the School of Management, and the peer counselor. She assisted the league branch of the School of Management to be awarded the "Xiangtan May Fourth Red Flag League Branch", assisted her party branch to obtain the "Project Management" project for two consecutive years, led the class to win the "May Fourth Red Flag League Branch", and actively participated in the social practice of "Support Rural Areas" and a number of volunteer services, with a cumulative volunteer service time of more than 100 hours. She was interviewed by Red Net News, with practical actions and the spirit of self-improvement influencing students and friends around.

The "Self-driven and Self-reliant Star of 2022” is a national honorary award, and the scholarship promotion activities are guided by the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League and the All-China Federation of Students, and jointly carried out by China Youth Daily, New Oriental Education Technology Group and China Youth Entrepreneurship and Employment Foundation. The newspaper promotion activity has been carried out since 2006 and is held once a year. Since the launch of the activity, teachers and students in colleges and universities have paid close attention to it, searching for young role models, carrying forward the spirit of self-improvement, and setting off the upsurge of "every school has it, and everyone can be the star of self-improvement".
