On July 26, the 2020 Hunan Physics Academic Summer Meeting was held in HIE. Sixty experts and scholars from provincial universities and colleges attended the meeting, discussing cutting-edge academic researches. A total number of 19.4 thousand people joined online as of 12:30am that day.

Professor Zhong Jianxin, president of Hunan Physics Society, Changjiang Scholar, dean of School of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering of Xiangtan University, and Professor Luo Yiping, vice president of HIE, attended and delivered a speech in the meeting. In addition to the main venue, there are also four sub-venues, through which 78 sessions' presentations were carried out on ZOOM line, involving quantum mechanics, quantum optics, material physics, high-energy physics and other fields of physics.

The meeting was chaired by Tang Yi, Secretary-General of Hunan Physics Society. In his welcome speech, Luo Yiping introduced HIE's history, school size, discipline characteristics and fruitful achievements in recent years. He pointed out that the physics discipline in HIE, as an applied characteristic discipline in Hunan Province, is an important support for the overall cultivation of students from science and engineering majors. He stressed that such academic meeting can not only expand and improve the influence of HIE, but also improve physics research level and strength. It plays a positive role in enhancing physical academic communication in Hunan province, promoting physics frontier exploration and strengthening cultivation of talents.

Professor Chen Qiao, from School of Computer Science and Electronics of HIE, gave a conference report entitled "Electronic Structure and Transport Properties of Transition Metal Dichalcogenides", which represents the academic level of physical discipline in HIE. He briefly introduced the research and discovery of molybdenum disulfide. Experts presented also made reports on their own research results, and had in-depth exchange and discussion on the latest developments and research results in the field of physics research.

This meeting is the second time for the School of Computer Science and Electronics of HIE to undertake the academic conference of Hunan Institute of Physics. The conference is sponsored by Hunan Xiangrui Electronics Technology Co., LTD and Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications Press.
